COMMUNICATIONS
Zambia is accessible from almost all the countries in the world. There are direct flights from London into Lusaka, three times a week using British Airways; Kenya airways interlining with KLM and South African Airways, have flights coming into Zambia on a daily basis via their Capital Cities. Other airlines are Ethiopian Airways, Air Zimbabwe, Angolan Airways, Air Malawi and Zambian Airways. There is a departure fee payable when leaving Zambia.
The road infrastructure is not bad between the major towns, though rail services are not as efficient or reliable as those found in the developed world. There are domestic flights between Lusaka and other towns such as the Copperbelt, Solwezi, Livingstone and Chipata. You can also charter flights to major towns and national parks. Car hire services are also in abundance in almost all the towns along the line of rail.
Zambia has got all the modern technology facilities that are found in the developed world, albeit the internet services could sometimes be frustratingly slow and the cell phone facilities are not as wide spread or advanced as those found in the developed world, but improvements are always being done.
PASSPORT AND VISAS
Valid passport is required by all and visas are required for almost all the countries. Please inquire with your travel agent, BIMM Travel and Safari Tours or the nearest Zambian High Commission or Consulate.
CURRENCY
The Zambian currency is called the ‘Kwacha’, and fluctuates regularly hence there is need to confirm the rate at the time of travel through the web. Currency restrictions apply.
CREDIT CARDS AND CURRENCY EXCHANGE:
American express, Access/Master Card, Diners Club and Visa are used, but it is advisable to check with your credit card company for details of merchant acceptability. Exchange of foreign currency is authorised at banks and bureau de change which can be found at almost all the major shopping malls and the town centres.
Fortunate enough BIMM Group of Companies also runs a bureau de change. So you do not have to run around town to get your exchange rates.
