ZAMBIA CULTURAL TRECK – THE 6 DAYS EASTERN ROUTE (KULAMBA CEREMONY)
- Held every last Saturday of August (493km from Lusaka to Katete – about 5 hours drive)
Day 1:
Arrive at Lusaka International Airport and be chauffer driven to either a hotel or lodge. Rest in the afternoon (depending on what time you flew into Lusaka) you take a tour of Lusaka visiting the National Museum, the Chilenje house where the country’s founding father Dr. Kenneth D. Kaunda resided and directed the independence struggle. Visit the markets and compounds and see how the ordinary Zambian people live.
Day 2:
Depart hotel for Katete. It takes approximately six hours including stop over on a fairly good road to reach Katete.
On the way visit the chinyunyu hot spring and the Mchinga escarpment commonly known as “manenekela” admire and buy some authentic Zambian crafts at Luangwa Bridge.
Day 3:
After an early breakfast we leave for the main arena to watch the Kulamba ceremony.
The Kulamba traditional ceremony is a traditional practice of paying annual tribute to Kalonga Gawa Undi the king of the Chewe people whose kingdom stretches into the neighbouring countries such as Malawi and Mozambique. The traditional chiefs from the neighbouring countries under the Kalonga Gawa Undi also annually come to this ceremony to submit social and economic reports over their areas.
Day 4:
- After breakfast, visit the Royal grave of the Chewa chiefs and thereafter depart for Chipata to visit the Katolola rock paintings, Spend a night in Chipata.
Day 5: Leave for Lusaka
Day 6: After breakfast transfer to the airport onward destination.

ZAMBIA CULTURAL TRECK – THE 9 DAY WESTERN ROUTE
(KUOMBOKA CEREMONY – HELD BETWEEN MARCH AND APRIL)
Day 1:
Arrive at Lusaka International Airport and be chauffer driven to either a hotel or lodge. Rest in the afternoon (depending on what time you flew into Lusaka) you take a tour of Lusaka visiting the National Museum, the Chilenje house where the country’s founding father Dr. Kenneth D. Kaunda resided and directed the independence struggle. Visit the markets and compounds and see how the ordinary Zambian people live.
Day 2:
Depart hotel/Lodge for Kuomboka ceremony in Mongu some 800 kilometers from Lusaka on a good road. This trip takes about 7-8 hours on a coach or 6 hours on a smaller vehicle. Chartered planes takes 45minutes to 1 hour.
Day 3:
Have an early breakfast and hire a boat to take you to Lealui to witness the colourful way the Litunga departs for Limulunga the summer capital. This ritual is called Kuomboka. Kuomboka simply means……….. “Coming out of water’. This ritual and social ceremony is practiced by the Lozi people of Western province. The paramount chief is ferried in his royal Black and White barge amid plomp and splender.
The trip in the boat from Lealui to Limulunga is about 16 Kilometers and takes approx. 5 hours.
There are many activities to watch, such as the sikenke (the presentation of young girls to the public who have come of age after being in seclusion from society whilst being taught about womanhood. The Mukanda which is the coming of age of the boys, is the opposite of the sikenge.
Day 4:
Visit the local museum which is one of the best equipped in the country situated a stones throw away from the Kuomboka ceremony. Here you will find all manner of artcrafts, basketry wood and metal works witchcraft artifacts, traditional medicine and handcrafts.
Day 5:
Go on a days trip to explore the vast mighty flooded Zambezi plains and talk to the indigenous tribes in surrounding villages and learn about their culture. Lunch will be served on the way.
- Return to Mongu for dinner and rest.
Day 6:
Start off for Lusaka. On the way spend a night at one of the lodges
In the Kafue National Park. The park, which is as large as Wales contain a variety of animal species such as Puku, Red Lechwe, the Kafue Lechwe (only found in Zambia) Antelope, Lions, Cheetah, Leopards and much more.
Day 7:
Leave early for a final pip at natures’ wonders before proceeding to Lusaka.
Day 8:
Leave for home.
Note: You can leave out the game drives and proceed from Mongu to Lusaka at a reduced rate.

ZAMBIA CULTURAL TRECK - THE 9 DAY NORTH WESTERN ROUTE
( LIKUMBI LYA MIZE) – HELD EVERY AUGUST
The trip is 1, 021 Kilometres from Lusaka and is reached by charted plane, which takes 2 hours or a 4x4. Which takes one and half days passing through good and rough roads.
Day 1:
Arrive at Lusaka International Airport and be chauffer driven to either a hotel or lodge. Rest in the afternoon (depending on what time you flew into Lusaka) you take a tour of Lusaka visiting the National Museum, the Chilenje house where the country’s founding father Dr. Kenneth D. Kaunda resided and directed the independence struggle. Visit the markets and compounds and see how the ordinary Zambian people live.
Day 2:
Leave hotel and have lunch in Kabwe.
- Visit the big tree in Kabwe.
- Proceed to the copperbelt and if there is time visit the Dag Hamargold Memorial Site.
- In Ndola visit the ‘slave tree’
- Spend a night in Solwezi, the North Western provincial town.
Day 3:
Early in the morning after breakfast leave for Zambezi.
Day 4:
After an early breakfast join the many visitors in the Likumbi Lya Mize traditional ceremony. This is the ceremony when the Luvale people of senior chief Ndungu of Zambezi district in North Western province display their rich variety of cultural dances.
The activities, which will include the girls and boy’s initiation rites, dances and makishi’s (traditionally believed to be spirits). Takes the whole day.
Day 5:
Visit the lower Zambezi plains go fishing and bird watching and visit indigenous villages.
Day 6.
Leave for Lusaka via Solwezi.
Day 7.
Reach Lusaka and relax
Day 8.
Leave for home.
ZAMBIA CULTURAL TRECK - THE 6 DAY LIVINGSTONE ROUTE
Day 1: Arrive at Lusaka International Airport and be chauffer driven to either a hotel or lodge. Rest in the afternoon (depending on what time you flew into Lusaka) you take a tour of Lusaka visiting the National Museum, the Chilenje house where the country’s founding father Dr. Kenneth D. Kaunda resided and directed the independence struggle. Visit the markets and compounds and see how the ordinary Zambian people live.
Day 2: Leave Lusaka and have lunch at Kozo lodge. Which is half way to Livingstone.
Arrive Livingstone and rest.
Day 3: Visit the mighty Victoria Falls. The locals call it “Mosi-o-tunya” meaning “the smoke that thunders”.
Participate in the different activities such as game viewing, boat and sundowner cruises, bunji jumping (not included in the package) or just walk along the incredible Victoria Falls Bridge.
Day 4: Visit the Mukuni cultural village and the museums. In the afternoon you can choose to either go on a boat ride game drive or just relax (not included in the package) or visit the local markets..
Day 5: Leave for Lusaka, have lunch at Kozo lodge before reaching Lusaka
Day 6: Transfer to airport for home.
