PACKAGE FOR 12 DAYS - LUSAKA/SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK/LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONALPARK/KASANKA NATIONAL PARK/LUSAKA

Day 1
You will be met at Lusaka International Airport and depending on your arrival time, you will either be taken to a Lusaka lodge or be escorted to your domestic flight to South Luangwa National Park.  The flight takes an hour and you will be transported into what is called “the country’s best game viewing area”.  There will be a meet and greet by your safari guide at Mfuwe Airport and transferred to the camp in time to settle down.

The South Luangwa Valley is home to different kinds of mammal species.  People used to call it the Valley of the Elephants as these are ever present throughout your stay in this Park.  You are able to see species such as the Thornicroft’s Giraffe and Cookson’s Wilderbeast.  South Luangwa is the National Park in Africa for watching leopards, elephants and other species in their natural environment.

Day 2- 3 (Kapani Lodge, South Luangwa National Park)

At Kapani Lodge start the morning with a light breakfast, watching the sun rise over the lagoon.  The morning game-drive will be in an open four-wheel drive vehicle which lasts for four hours and brings you back for  lunch.  The hours after lunch can be used to relax by the pool or to browse through the camp's library; before the excitement of the afternoon/night safari.  Dinner is served in various locations after your safari.

Days 4 to 5 (Walking Safari - Luwi, Nsolo and Kakuli Bushcamps)

From Kapani you will be driven deep into the National Park to Luwi Bushcamp, this is where you find a large population of hippos, deep shade of large trees close to a permanent lagoon and even more Crocodile. The rooms at Luwi have grass walls and thatched roofs with bathrooms that are open to the trees and stars above.

On arrival your professional guide will introduce you to the armed escort scout who will accompany you on your first real walking safari. Your guide will take time to point out the tracks and signs that he uses to interpret the bush that you are walking through. This first excursion will be a taster for what is to come.

On the second morning at Luwi Bushcamp you will head out from camp as you did on the previous day but this time your guide will walk you down the Luwi river course. Your destination is Nsolo.
Your home for the next two nights will be a raised deck with grass walls on three sides and a tall, cool thatched roof. Once more your bathroom is open to the sky above.

The next morning will see another move, this time further down the Luwi River, again on foot, to its confluence with the main Luangwa and to Kakuli Camp. This camp is tented and has stunning views along a stretch of the Luangwa that is home to over five hundred Hippos.

Day 6, 7 and 8 Chiawa Camp (Lower Zambezi National Park)

Arrival on Day 6. Steep escarpment behind you and the Zambezi in front, few fail to be moved by this National Park. The Activities here are varied and one should try to experience as much as possible every type of activity. Morning and afternoon drives or walks are always offered but it is essential to spend at least some of your time on the water itself. Sunset drifts are an option and for the more adventurous, a paddle in canoes along one of the many channels frequented by hippo, elephant and buck can be undertaken. The Lower Zambezi is a Park for everyone and a perfect end to an exciting Zambian safari.

Days 9, 10 and 11 Wasa & Luwombwa (Kasanka National Park in the Northern Zambia)

Day 9 - 10  - from Jeki Airstrip, you will be flown across the country to the northern part of Zambia in the Kasanka National Park and the adjacent Bangweulu Wetlands. These places make very rewarding destinations for visitors seeking to delve deeper into Africa’s hidden corners. There are great opportunities for education and research in a real wilderness but with good supportive infrastructure.

Kasanka is Zambia’s only national park under private management and is entirely reliant on tourism revenue and charitable funding. It is a valuable conservation area with diverse flora and fauna including many endangered species and exceptional birdlife.

Wasa Lodge lies on the edge of Lake Wasa in the eastern half of the park just 12 kms from the park entrance at the tarmac road. It is ideally suited for visiting the hide at Fibwe  (just 15 minutes drive or 2 hours walk away) and has a fine view with puku, hippo and sometimes even sitatunga visible from the lodge. The lodge has a double and a single bed, ensuite bathroom and private verandah. Lighting is provided (by solar power). Additional accommodation is available in 6 simpler chalets with separate facilities.

Day 11 and 12 (Relax at Lusaka’s Mwiza Lodge)

Fly from Kasanka National Park to Lusaka.  Relax at a Lusaka Lodge.  If time permits, you will be taken for a city tour of Lusaka. The next day it will be early morning breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
